So here I am in Uganda, where I'll be for the next month till I head back to South Africa. I'm staying with my cousin, Kerri, who is living with her cousins, Chris and Jane, near Jinja, Uganda. It has been so good to see her again and spend some time with her. I'm still sort of settling in here... it always takes some getting used to with a different culture and living conditions, but I'm excited for the month ahead. I think it will be a time of rest and experiencing the country of Uganda. It's been cool to be here again after coming here a year and a half ago.
The last week in South Africa we had a few days of debrief at a Christian retreat center near George. It was such a good time of relaxing and adventures and looking back at the past semester. I went caving at the Cango Caves and squeezed through some small little passages up and crawled through tunnels. And I also got to pet a cheetah! That was pretty sweet. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and it was awesome to enjoy God in His creation. It was also encouraging to reflect and see how much God has done and how He's been working on me. He's completely revamping my identity and building me up in Him alone, and my prayer for the next semester is that I would be completely sold out to Him and be able to give 100% in everything I do. He is so good to me and I'm just in awe of His faithfulness and His immeasurable love for me. I'm so thankful for the past three months and can't wait to see what He's going to do in the next five!
Being away from home at Christmastime is really hard.... I think I"m going to need to make sure I"m home next year for sure! But my prayer is that God would draw me deeper and closer to Him in those times when I'm missing home, and family. He is my comfort and my Father and He is more than enough!
In Him,
Melissa
